Why Fans Think Taylor Swift’s Song “Pink Clouding” Is an Apology to This Ex-Boyfriend

Taylor Swift released four new tracks on September 25.

In “Pink Clouding,” she sings an apparent apology to an unnamed ex.

Some fans online believe the song is inspired by her 2016 relationship with Tom Hiddleston.

Swifties, four new tracks have officially landed—and, naturally, the internet is already filled with new hypotheses about all of the possible Easter eggs packed within their lyrics. In one of Taylor Swift’s new songs, “Pink Clouding,” she seemingly recalls a brief rebound relationship before singing an apology to the unnamed ex—and fans online think they know exactly who she’s talking about: Tom Hiddleston.

“Do we agree it’s about [sic] him,” one TikTok video read.

“I can’t believe there’s a new hiddleswift song in the year two thousand and twenty six,” another person wrote over a video.

Swift dated actor Tom Hiddleston for just one summer in 2016 shortly after her relationship of one year with Calvin Harris ended in May 2016. The following year, Hiddleston had nothing but praise for his ex. “Taylor is an amazing woman,” he told GQ. “She’s generous and kind and lovely, and we had the best time. Of course it was real.”

“Years later, I still wonder how to tell you sorry,” Swift sings in the song, after describing a rebound fling. “After the way I treated you, you never deserved it / And I swear to God, to this day / I wake up scared that I left scars on a good person / And I gave you zero reason to believe it, so be it / But it didn’t mean nothin’ just ‘cause I could leave it,” she goes on.

Swift also released the song “Cleveland!,” which is a pretty evident nod to her new husband Travis Kelce’s hometown and her first reference to her marriage. In the final chorus, she even hinted at her Dior wedding dress: “He already took me to Cleveland / Now I’m wearing white / So hate all you like / This is the love of my life.”

In the accompanying lyric video, Swift also included sweet clips of a trip to Cleveland with Kelce.
