Boy kibble, a new TikTok food craze, is taking over the internet

The viral food typically consists of a bowl of rice topped with some kind of unseasoned meat — and it’s being touted as a simple and efficient way to consume protein

The trend is reminiscent — and perhaps the exact opposite — of the viral girl dinner, which included charcuterie boards and snack plates packed with miscellaneous items for a meal

Girl dinner, meet your blander, protein-fortified brother: boy kibble!

You heard that right. Boy kibble — typically a bowl of rice topped with some kind of unseasoned meat — is the latest food craze taking over TikTok. And yes, it’s being consumed by humans, not dogs.

But what is the appeal of chowing down on a dinner plate that looks strikingly similar to the food in your pup’s bowl? Content creators across TikTok have proclaimed that boy kibble’s simplicity makes it a fast and easy way to consume protein.

“I understand if you're someone that can't just eat the same thing every night, but if you don't have any problems with that, you don't have to overthink this,” content creator Jackson Hadley said a TikTok.

He added, “Find one thing that you really like and just eat that all the time.” (Hadley’s version of boy kibble, he went on to share, usually involves frozen turkey burger patties over a bowl of rice, which he’ll occasionally dress up with Chick-fil-A sauce.)

“It’s efficient,” Harry, another TikTok userm, said of the meal prep. “It gets the job done.”

Boy kibble is only the latest in a newfound protein craze over the last few years (even Khloe Kardashian released a protein-fortified popcorn). A poll released in July 2025, for instance, found that nearly half of teen boys had consumed protein supplements, with over half saying they wanted to build muscle and improve sports performance — much to experts’ dismay.

Plenty of TikTok users have also taken the concept of boy kibble and run with it. Some have dressed up the meat-rice duo with colorful veggies and sauces, turning what was once a pretty beige combination of foods into something closer to the rice bowl we all know and love.

The trend seems to be a riff on the 2023 phenomenon: girl dinner, which consisted of charcuterie boards and snack plates packed with miscellaneous breads, cheeses, fruits, vegetables and other snacking foods.

The only differences is, well, everything.
