NFL star — and pop icon Taylor Swift's fiancé — Travis Kelce recently made an investment in Six Flags — but now the hedge fund that helped make that investment possible has slammed the global amusement park super chain.

It was announced in October that the Kansas City Chief and Super Bowl champion would join Jana Partners, consumer executive Glenn Murphy, and technology executive Dave Habiger to purchase a 9 percent stake in Six Flags. On Tuesday, a new report indicated that Jana personnel sent a letter to the amusement park's board of directors alleging "an alarming pattern of board dysfunction and disjointed decision-making that has become impossible to ignore."

The letter, published in part by Reuters, included Jana calling out the board's ability to "deliver" for shareholders.**

Reuters also reported that the letter called for new leadership on the Six Flags board, with Jana reportedly also urging a sale of the company.

** has reached out to representatives for Kelce, Six Flags, and Jana for comment.

Tuesday's news comes after Six Flags named a new CEO, John Reilly, for whom Jana has previously expressed support. It also follows the announcement in early March that the chain would sell seven of its existing properties around the world, months after the chain permanently closed Six Flags America in Maryland in November 2025.

"Today, we’re sharing an important update about the future of Six Flags — one that strengthens our foundation, sharpens our focus, and supports long-term growth across our parks," a press release read, further confirming that the parks impacted included:  Michigan's Adventure in Muskegon, Mich.; Schlitterbahn Galveston in Texas; Six Flags Great Escape in Queensbury, N.Y.; La Ronde in Montreal; Six Flags St. Louis in Missouri; Valleyfair in Minnesota; and Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Mo.

EW previously viewed and reported on trademark documents in January that indicated potentially major changes in the chain, including United States Patent and Trademark Office website activity that noted Jan. 8 and Jan. 9 filings for name changes to — or even the sale of — multiple Six Flags parks.

In the filings, the destinations were grouped under the title "Enchanted Parks," with subsequent subtitles reflecting the names of existing Six Flags properties and/or regions where the company currently operates attractions — including most of properties mentioned by Six Flags in March's sale announcement.

The documents EW reviewed further pointed toward Enchanted Parks Water Safari and Enchanted Parks Water's Edge Inn, though Six Flags doesn't own attractions with those names. There are, however, two attractions with names similar to those: Enchanted Forest Water Safari and the Water's Edge Inn, both of which appear to be owned by Innovative Attraction Management.

Six Flags merged with fellow amusement park giant Cedar Fair in 2024, in a move that combined both companies' huge portfolios. Under the merger, hugely popular destinations like Cedar Point, Knott's Berry Farm, Six Flags Magic Mountain, Canada's Wonderland, Carowinds, Six Flags Great America, and more operated under one roof for the first time in history.

After the October 2025 announcement that Kelce would invest in Six Flags, the NFL star released a statement expressing excitement over the business deal, which he addressed "to all my fellow theme park and amusement park lovers" in his fanbase.

"Couldn’t pass up the opportunity to continue the tradition and make Cedar Point and Six Flags even more special for the next generation of families!" he wrote on Instagram at the time. "Excited to partner with Jana Partners as an investor in Six Flags. So crazy to even imagine this is real, but you gotta love it when life comes full circle."
