The “Something Like That” singer shut down a rumor that he performed at the wedding while recently chatting with Esquire

He added that he “couldn’t be happier for her to find Travis”

Tim McGraw is shutting down a rumor about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s wedding.

The country singer, 59, confirmed that he attended the star-studded celebration at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Friday, July 3, with his wife, Faith Hill, 59, during an installment of Esquire’s “What I’ve Learned” interview series released on Wednesday, Oct. 28. However, he did not perform, as some headlines claimed.

“I didn’t perform at her wedding. That was a rumor,” McGraw told Michael Sebastian, Esquire‘s editor-in-chief. “The internet’s not always correct.”

McGraw said Swift, 36, has a “close” relationship with his family, and praised her for being a “genius songwriter” with the ability to “span generations with her music.”

The pair developed a supportive friendship shortly after Swift released her debut single, “Tim McGraw,” named after the country singer, in 2006. Since then, McGraw and Hill have served as mentors to Swift, offering guidance and encouragement throughout her career. The three have also performed together on several occasions.

“Taylor’s always been close to our family, our girls,” said McGraw, who shares daughters Gracie, 29, Maggie, 28, and Audrey, 24, with Hill. “She’s been to our house and hung out with our girls. And, I mean, she’s a special person, and one of the most talented people I’ve ever met ... I couldn’t be more proud of her.”

He continued, “We just felt like she was just a special artist and a special person, and we still feel that way. And we couldn’t be happier for her to find Travis, who’s a cool guy as well.”

McGraw isn’t the only celebrity to have addressed performances at Swift and Kelce’s wedding. Several stars sang at the wedding, including Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks and even Kelce, 37. Guests Nelly and Ashanti confirmed on Good Day New York on Oct. 21 that they didn’t perform at the wedding, but called the nuptials “amazing,” “beautiful” and “so magical.”

There were an estimated 1,000 wedding guests, including hundreds of A-list celebrity friends and industry tastemakers, such as Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco, Ed Sheeran, Emma Stone, Jessica Alba, Hugh Grant, Cindy Crawford, Jennifer Lopez, Brad Pitt, Bradley Cooper, Gigi Hadid, Zoë Kravitz, Dakota Johnson, Karlie Kloss and Ethan Hawke. Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony.
