- Jamie McPhee celebrated their son's seventh birthday.
It's been five months since the death of *The Wire* star James Ransone, and his widow is sharing a family update and thanking their "village" for all the love and support.
This week, Jamie McPhee posted a carousel of photos celebrating the seventh birthday of her and Ransone's son, Jack. "The most handsome, stubborn, funny, affectionate, strong boy and we wouldn’t want it any other way," she wrote on Instagram, alongside photos of Jack with his father and the couple's other child. "Love you to the moon and back!"
Ransone died by suicide in December. The beloved character actor had long been outspoken about his physical and mental health issues, between past drug addiction and the alleged abuse he experienced as a child. (After his death, a women shared that Ransone saved her from a sexual assault attack in 2006.)

"To all of our friends and family — it takes a village indeed," McPhee said on social media. "We love everyone so much. Thank you for all your support, love, kindness, food, tears, and laughs these last 5 months. I can finally see that every day is a gift so on this one we celebrate Jack together. Thank you thank you thank you."

Best known for his television work, particularly his unforgettable performance as the live wire Ziggy Sobotka on season 2 of *The Wire*, Ransone also appeared in films from Spike Lee, Sean Baker, and John Waters, as well as five Scott Derrickson movies.

And when Ransone was "ignored" by the Oscars In Memoriam, the *Sinister *filmmaker spoke out about his friend, who had often proven to be volatile and controversial online.
"He was a complex, funny, talented, and undeniably reckless person. He was wildly alive and deeply loved," Derrickson said. "I know he said some infuriating things online, but the last time I saw him, he cried with regret for all of that. 'I didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings,' he said. Please don't trash him here. He is dearly missed."
