- Sasha Calle looks back on her brief stint as Supergirl, saying she's "utterly grateful" for the opportunity.
- She talks working with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon on the new Netflix crime thriller *The Rip*.
- Calle reveals whether she would consider returning to her Supergirl role if the opportunity presented itself.
Sasha Calle, who played Supergirl in 2023's *The Flash*, is looking back on the experience with nothing but gratitude as a new actor, Milly Alcock, officially takes over the role this summer.
The actor, now reteaming with *Flash *costar Ben Affleck in this weekend's *The Rip, *made* *her feature film debut as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl in Andy Muschietti's beleaguered take on the DC speedster starring Ezra Miller, who was mired in legal controversy during the run-up to its release. Despite mixed reviews for the film, Calle's performance was hailed as a bright spot — but her cape time was cut short when James Gunn and Peter Safran took over at DC Studios in October 2022 and went in a new direction with most of the existing characters (including Affleck's Batman and Henry Cavill's Superman).
While Calle admitted the decision was "heartbreaking" and "confusing" in an interview with *The Hollywood Reporter *last year, when ** asks if her feelings have evolved over time — and in the wake of Alcock's debut as the character in June's *Supergirl* — the actor has nothing but positive things to say about her time as the Kryptonian.

"I'm so grateful," she says. "Someone mentioned today the video when Andy Muschietti calls me and tells me that I got the job. And I still [remember], the feeling was so surreal, you know? And it's taken me to a place where I get to work now with Ben and Matt [Damon], Teyana [Taylor], Catalina [Sandino Moreno], Steven [Yeun], Kyle [Chandler]," Calle continues, referring to her *Rip *costars. "I'm so, so, so utterly grateful that it's brought me into this world where I can make art. I loved it."
While she never got to really connect with Affleck on *The Flash —* outside of literally bumping into him in hair and makeup ("our meet-cute," she jokes) — she had a blast working with the actor and his best bud Damon on *The Rip*.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon learn trust has a $20-million price in teaser for new crime thriller 'The Rip'

"They're beautiful people," she says. "Aside from being absolute legends, they're just so kind, so loving, and they're just very human. They lead with grace and kindness. And Matt, being our number one in this movie, was a beautiful leader. And Ben is just a curious man who touches every camera and allows you to explore."
In the film, directed by Joe Carnahan, Damon and Affleck play Miami cops whose relationship is put to the test when they find millions in cash during a search-and-seizure. As outside forces, from fellow cops to cartel bosses, learn about the sizable stash, loyalties and oaths are called into question. Calle joins the fun as Desi, who is living in the stash house when the cops come knocking.
"Desi is in the middle of a really messy situation," Calle teases. "I think she's compassionate. I think she tries, in the sense that when we first meet her, we don't know that she just lost her grandmother and that she had been taking care of her for years. And her grandmother was a straight-up hoarder, living in this hoard house. And it was a lot for her to carry. Then her grandma passes, and she's dealing with bills and funeral costs. And then the house is on probate, and she's fighting her sister for it, who never cared about even making sure that they were okay."

Playing Desi also meant Calle had scenes with "every single person in this movie, which was a blessing for me as an actor," she says.
While she doesn't get to do many stunts in *The Rip*, Calle says she hopes to one day get back to the kind of physical work she enjoyed during her short-lived stint as Supergirl.

"I joke around here and there: I had a meeting with Netflix, and they're like, 'So, what do you wanna do?' I'm like, 'I wanna hit some people,'" she says with a laugh. "And they're like, 'Okay!' I'm excited to fight again on screen, to jump, to roll, to toss."
If the comic book multiverses aligned, and an opportunity arose for her to return as the Woman of Tomorrow in a future project, Calle says she's not opposed to dusting off the cape. "I don't know, it depends," she says. "If I get a call, I'm open to receiving it, you know?"
*The Rip* hits Netflix on Friday.**
