The Social Reckoning's Aaron Sorkin claims the "country is suffering" simply because leaders like Trump and Zuckerberg suffer from "cool kids table" syndrome.
The Social Reckoning writer/director Aaron Sorkin claims āmuch of the country is sufferingā simply because leaders like President Donald Trump and Facebook head Mark Zuckerberg suffer from a ācool kids tableā syndrome.
Sorkin joined MS NOWās Nicolle Wallace on her The Best People with Nicolle Wallace podcast to discuss Social Reckoning, a sequel to the hit The Social Network that once again focuses on Zuckerberg. Jeremy Strong steps into the role of Zuckerberg for the new film, which follows former Facebook engineerFrances Haugen (played by Mikey Madison) becoming a whistleblower against the social media company in 2021.
In an exclusive preview shared with Mediaite, Sorkin, a Democrat, talked about the similarities between Zuckerberg and Trump and argued the country is suffering because of toxic leaders who previously felt shunned by the ācool kids table.ā
Sorkin said:
I felt like, learning everything that I had learned, was that Mark felt⦠Mark, he doesnāt quite fit into the social life in college. I can identify with that.
He feels like thereās a cool kidsā table someplace and heās not allowed to sit on it, so he invents his own cool kidsā table, and heās gonna be the mayor of that I feel like much of the country is suffering from this syndrome of America has a cool kids table, and Iām not allowed at it, including and especially Trump.
I really believe that if [George] Clooney and Brad Pitt would just invite the guy over for a slumber party, we might be out of this.
The Social Reckoning has received a much more split response than the first movie, scoring a 54% āfreshā rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics. The first movie (which Sorkin wrote) stands at 96%.

Sorkin also discussed reviving his play A Few Good Men on Broadway, something he said was partly inspired by a video of Democratic lawmakers urging soldiers and intelligence officials to defy illegal orders under Trump.
The Department of Justice tried and failed to indict the six lawmakers over the video, which Trump described as traitorous. A Few Good Men also centers around an illegal order being given.
Sorkin said:
The other reason why I wanted to do it, though, was that incredibly itās suddenly relevant, the idea of an illegal order.
You know, Mark Kelly, and four others, a few months ago just wanted to warn enlisted men.
I think what they said was that you donāt have to follow an illegal order⦠when in fact you are required to not follow an illegal order.
The problem is you canāt expect a private to know what an illegal order is. Theyāre gonna follow an order. Anyway, this play, which involves an illegal order being given suddenly seemed relevant to me.
