It wouldn't shock any Scrubs fans to learn that costars Donald Faison and Zach Braff even bicker like a married couple off screen.
"We get in big fights," Braff declared during a joint appearance on Thursday's Jimmy Kimmel Live, during which the duo reflected on their decades-long friendship that began when they were cast on the beloved NBC sitcom in 2001, and has carried on after its original run ended in 2010. The pair have continued to work together, including launching a Scrubs rewatch podcast at the start of the pandemic, on which they revisit and provide commentary on all 182 episodes.
And much like the often dramatic shenanigans that their onscreen characters Dr. John "J.D." Dorian (Braff) and Dr. Christopher Turk (Faison) get into on the show, the two have been through some trials and tribulations while working on the podcast. Braff recalled one instance when Faison, who he said is "often late to things," arrived late to record an episode and didn't apologize.
"He was like a half hour late. We do it on Zoom and he showed up — he didn't say, like, sorry. He goes, 'Oh, y'all mad?'" Braff recounted, to the laughter of the audience.

Faison was quick to interject in his defense, emphasizing that he was only "three minutes late."
But Braff would hear nothing of it, continuing with his retelling: "That's not true at all. And then we got into a big fight and the engineer recorded the whole thing and we were like, 'We can't. We gotta cut and just regroup tomorrow.' And so we told the fans, but we didn't release the fight. And the fans of our podcast always said, 'Release the fight. Release the fight.'"
"Well, they should know that the fight was about me being three minutes late then. That's the thing," Faison remarked dryly, as Kimmel shared his endorsement for the pair to "absolutely" release the recording.
But both Faison and Braff said they would "never" release the fight, with the latter commenting, "Words were said, Jimmy, that can't be taken back. It got heated."

"We said some things," Faison agreed, to which Kimmel then asked for a compromise in which he got to listen to the recording. "Absolutely, it's totally trivial."
Braff joked that the recording is "hilarious because it's like a married couple having a tiff." When asked which of them is the first to apologize in similar scenarios, Braff added that Faison "hasn't apologized in 25 years for anything."

The pair have reunited with other Scrubs costars for the revival series, which premiered last week and returns to Sacred Heart Hospital more than a decade after the finale. Joining Braff and Faison are Sarah Chalke, who portrayed J.D.'s love interest Dr. Elliot Reid; Judy Reyes, who played head nurse (and Turk's love interest) Carla Espinosa on the original show; and John C. McGinley, who portrayed J.D.'s mentor Perry Cox.

Other familiar faces are reprising their roles, in addition to several guest stars making their Scrubs debut. Among the latter are Vanessa Bayer (Saturday Night Live) as Sibby, who runs a wellness program for Sacred Heart's faculty and staff, and Joel Kim Booster (Loot) as attending physician Dr. Eric Park.
The revival will also introduce a new intern class, including five newbies: Upright Citizens Brigade alum Ava Bunn as Serena, Jacob Dudman (Fate: The Winx Saga) as Asher, David Gridley (All American) as Blake, Layla Mohammadi (Lioness) as Amara, and Amanda Morrow (Law & Order: SVU) as Dashana.
The show airs new episodes weekly on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
