It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

The towering Christmas tree that will light up Rockefeller Center this holiday season has arrived in New York City.

Workers used a crane and ropes to carefully lift the 75-foot-tall Norway spruce on Saturday morning at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, setting it into its place in front of the midtown Art Deco skyscraper overlooking the plaza's famous ice skating rink.

The tree will remain unlit until December 3, when 50,000 multicolored, energy-efficient LED lights and a Swarovski star weighing 900 pounds will be hung on the tree.

Footage from last night shows the massive tree navigating through the city lights at night on a trailer.

A Hundred-Year-Old Tree

The 11-ton tree had taken a 150 mile journey south from East Greenbush, New York, a suburb of Albany. Homeowner Judy Russ and her family donated the tree for this year's display.

Russ said the tree was planted by her husband's great-grandparents in the 1920s.

The affordable housing nonprofit Habitat for Humanity will have the tree milled for lumber after the holiday season. Habitat For Humanity helped more than 3 million people build or improve their homes in 2024 alone.

The Rockefeller Christmas tree is a tradition that dates back to the Great Depression. The first tree was only twenty feet tall and adorned with homemade garlands, a gesture that was designed to raise spirits during the economic downturn.
