Angela Oakley and her husband, Charles, are in ongoing counseling to strengthen their marriage, she said

The couple faced challenges early on, including a separation one year after their 2016 wedding

Angela shared plans to renew their vows, calling it important after overcoming past struggles together

Angela Oakley is sharing the secret to her long marriage with husband Charles.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star, 45, appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Sunday, June 21, and shared how she and her husband, 62, have kept their marriage strong.

"You know what, we are in counseling," said Angela as she spoke about her relationship. "Counseling is forever."

"And my biggest takeaway is, I'm not always right. Sometimes, Charles can be right. You know, like, I hate it here," joked Angela.

Chiming in from the audience, Charles said he tends to let Angela get her way in their relationship.

"She always thinks she's right," he said. "So I just let her go and let her have it her way 'cause arguing ain't going to go nowhere but bad. When we start arguing, it's going to end up bad. So I just said, 'Hey, it's your way.' "

"And I like it that way," added Angela.

Angela and Charles have shared glimpses of their marriage during past seasons of The Real Housewives of Atlanta.

On an episode last March, Angela admitted that their marriage got off to a rocky start. Charles, who played on the New York Knicks for 10 seasons, was arrested in February 2017 on three counts of assault and one count of criminal trespass following an altercation with security. The charges were later dropped.

"I really, really, really want to do that," she said of renewing her vows, revealing that the two had separated just one year after getting married. "2017 with Madison Square Garden, that was a very, very rough time. Charles was attending a game in New York. The owner does not like Charles and called security to come. [They] escorted him out."

"We were newly married," Angela noted. "He needed to heal, and I couldn't heal him during this time. I was just like, 'You know what? We're going to try to work through this at a distance.' "

"And we did live separately," she continued. "So us just recommitting to one another, I feel like is important at this moment, because everything that happened since we got married, it affected us."
