Princess Charlotte attended Wimbledon on July 13, 2025, alongside her mom Kate Middleton, dad Prince William, and older brother Prince George.

The young royal marked a major beauty milestone: wearing nail polish publicly for the first time.

She showed off a bubblegum pink shade at the tournament.

Wimbledon 2025 may have been Princess Charlotte’s third time at the prestigious London open, but it also marked a first for the young royal—the first time she has ever worn nail polish publicly.

On July 13, 2025, Charlotte accompanied her mom Kate Middleton, dad Prince William, and older brother Prince George to the annual tennis tournament wearing bubblegum pink nail polish.

Charlotte paired her cheery nails with a white dress featuring navy detailing, a matching blue bow in her braided half-up, half-down hairdo, and a The Lion King charm bracelet. Charlotte’s nail polish initially flew under the radar, but when covering her mouth or clapping, it was clearly visible.

There is some debate about royal protocol surrounding nail polish, as Queen Elizabeth was partial to lighter, less distracting colors (such as her longtime favorite Essie Ballet Slippers), and many other royals followed suit. However, there are no official rules surrounding nail colors. In fact, Kate has been known to occasionally rock a red nail, such as at the royal family’s 2023 Easter celebrations.

“The royal family tends to favor sheer, neutral shades on shorter, squoval-shaped nails,” Olive & June founder Sarah Gibson Tuttle told Harper’s Bazaar. “It’s a super-classic, clean look that looks timeless and royal appropriate. While we’ve all heard rumors of rules, I know royal nails are always pretty, polished, and perfectly manicured.”

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams previously told The Daily Mail that royals “are encouraged to use neutral, understated colors for their nails,” and royal biographer Omid Scobie previously told Harper’s Bazaar, “There’s no actual protocol about dark nail polish. It’s simply about being appropriate.”

Charlotte attended Wimbledon for the first time in 2023 and returned in 2024 alongside her mom and aunt Pippa Middleton. Their 2024 appearance was an especially profound one, as Kate limited her outings amid her cancer diagnosis. (Kate has since completed cancer treatment and announced she is in remission.)

Royal photographer Karwai Tang captured a sweet moment between mother and daughter after taking a break from the 2024 match, per People. “[Charlotte] skipped down the stairs and when she got back to her seat—she was laughing,” he said. “She leaned over and must have told her mom what it was about, and they were giggling together and having a good old laugh.”

“You can tell that all three of them were enjoying themselves—Charlotte is following the game like her mother,” Tang added. “You can see their excitement.”
