Minnesota Wild defenseman Brock Faber underwent a successful surgery on Sunday, Sept. 27 after suffering a skull fracture in their preseason game two days prior

Faber was struck by a deflected hockey puck in the Wild’s preseason loss to the Dallas Stars

Faber will be out indefinitely while the organization says they will “follow the doctor’s leads” on a timetable for his return

Minnesota Wild defenseman Brock Faber is out indefinitely as he recovers from a skull fracture sustained in their last game of the preseason.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, Sept. 29, the team’s general manager Bill Guerin said Faber, 24, “suffered a fracture to his skull” and underwent a successful surgery on Sunday.

“The biggest thing here is that he’s doing well. And sometimes you just have to put the hockey aside and worry about the human being. That’s what we’re doing here now,” Guerin added.

According to NHL.com, the general manager said the organization “will follow the doctor’s leads” as far as a timeline for Faber’s return goes.

The Wild’s PR account on X said, “A timeline for his return to hockey will be provided at a later date.”

Guerin praised Faber as “a big player for us” and added, “It’s always going to affect your team when guys like that are out,” per NHL.com.

Faber suffered the fracture to his skull when he was struck in the head by a deflected puck in the second period of the Wild’s 2-1 preseason loss to the Dallas Stars on Friday, Sept. 25. The hockey star stayed down on the ice for a few moments as teammates huddled around him, and Faber eventually stood up and skated off the ice on his own.

Faber — who won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics — did not return for the third period and was transported to a hospital, according to ESPN.

Faber was drafted in the second round by the Los Angeles Kings in 2020. In 2022, he was traded to the Wild.
