Maurice Johnson Reunites with 'Beyond the Gates' Cast at NAACP Image Awards

Cast members from Beyond the Gates attended the NAACP Image Awards on February 28, where former original cast member Maurice Johnson reunited with his co-stars nearly a year after his exit from the series.
Johnson originated the role of Dr. Ted Richardson and appeared from the series premiere through Episode 51, which aired May 13, 2025.
No official reason for Johnson’s departure was announced. The role was later recast with Keith D. Robinson, best known for his role on Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue.
At an NAACP Image Awards afterparty, Johnson posed for a reunion photo with several former co-stars, including, Ambyr Michelle, Lami, Brandon Claybon, Marquita Goings, Mike Manning, Karla Mosley, Trisha Mann Grant and Daphnée Duplaix.
Fans quickly shared their excitement on seeing Johnson reunited with his former cast members. One user wrote, “That's SUPER DOPE. It's always great to see Maurice Johnson. 🖤👑.” With a second user adding, “Everyone looks beautiful.”

Since leaving Beyond the Gates, Johnson has appeared in the feature film Operation: Aunties.
According to IMDB page, he is also attached to several projects in development, including Escape Room, Praying Hands that Pret, Imani, Hidden Intentions New Beginnings, He Who Finds a Wife at Christmas, God's Green Earth, Gangster's Daughter 4, and Dragpires.
Following his departure from Beyond the Gates, Johnson shared a montage of his time on the series to Instagram.
In the caption, he thanked fans and the production team, writing: “I ❤️ and appreciate my Beyond the Gates fans, cast and crew from top to bottom!
