Marlon Brando was well-decorated for many performances throughout his career, particularly the one he gave in 1972's The Godfather

In 2004, Brando's final work was voice acting in The Godfather: The Game

Marlon Brando's last bit of acting almost didn't happen.

The Godfather icon was in the last months of his life when gaming company EA approached him to lend his voice to Don Vito Corleone in The Godfather: The Game.

The game's action follows the playable main character, canonically named Aldo Trapani, who works to get to the top of the Corleone family as they find themselves at war with the Tattaglia family. Brando agreed to voice-act in the game, but shortly thereafter, his health took a turn for the worse, necessitating the use of an oxygen mask.

Despite this, Brando did record some material for the game. Throughout the two-year development process, it was determined that most of what was recorded was unusable, requiring the company to enlist voice actor Doug Abrahams to add Don Corleone to his slate of three other characters he voiced in the game.

EA was able to use one bit of Brando's dialogue in the game. It comes in a cut scene where Don Corleone was shot in the midst of the war between families. As he lies in the hospital being comforted by his son Michael, Brando's weakened voice can be heard saying, "You know, it's a lot of foolishness about this Sollozzo business. It's so unfortunate, it's really unnecessary."

"Gave him my 'no' with common courtesy. I told him his business would not interfere with mine. And uh, he wouldn't take it right. I know the Tattaglia family has brought down misfortune on our own heads," he continued.

“Well, that's life. Everybody's got their own tale of sorrow," the scene concludes.

Godfather alumni Al Pacino and Robert De Niro reunited in June 2025 in celebration of Francis Ford Coppola, at the 50th AFI Life Achievement Award ceremony in Hollywood. Pacino began the tribute with what the actor said was a quote from Coppola himself.

"The things you do when you're young that you get fired for are the same things that years, later they give you a lifetime achievement award," Pacino said as the audience applauded, and Coppola could be seen nodding in agreement.

"You know, none of us were fired from The Godfather, but some of us got pretty close," Pacino said. "I got the closest," he added as De Niro, 81, smiled.

"Francis just fought for us all the time. He fought for his film and his vision, which he always does. Thanks for believing in me, even more than I believed in myself. I am eternally grateful and honored to be part of your Godfather family."
