A couple ran into a small problem at home over their respective packages

The husband likes unboxing his packages, but his wife often opens them first

He tried a new solution, which caused more tension between them

Unboxing a new gadget or package can be a surprisingly personal experience. For some, it’s about the anticipation, the careful inspection of packaging and the small joys of discovery.

However, for one 34-year-old man in a seemingly happy three-year marriage, the smallest of rituals can create unexpected tension.

“I work at a public department. We're childfree, the Government will take care of our retirement and hospital bills,” the Reddit user explained in a post.

“So, we don't have any big reason to save a lot of money...hence we spend like 50% of our combined income for upgrading our lifestyle, buying things for fun, travel, etc," he wrote.

Given that both he and his wife enjoy online shopping, they average about “20 orders/month.”

The conflict arose because, while he is out working during the day, his wife often receives his deliveries and will “unbox my orders behind my back, even though I've told her not to.”

“I know it sounds petty, but it ruins the unboxing experience for me,” he added. “I love inspecting all the contents and packaging the way we received it, etc.”

Although she roughly returns the items to their place, he noted that it's never the same as the original packaging.

The issue escalated when “she accidentally threw away the manual of a gadget along with the packaging" that he purchased.

“I assumed that it didn't come with a manual and spent my whole evening figuring out its functions,” he wrote.

Despite repeated requests, his wife continues her habit out of curiosity. Unable to resolve it at home, he decided to change the delivery address to his mother’s house, reasoning that she “has no issues with claiming my orders and never opens them.”

This solution, however, sparked a new tension. His wife became upset, accusing him of taking their “personal matter out of the house.” So, he turned to Reddit for an outside perspective.

Users rushed to the comments to support the original poster’s decision to switch his delivery address.

“You're enforcing a boundary. The real issue is why you even had to do that, why isn't your very simple and reasonable request enough for her,” one user wrote.

Another pointed out that the issue was more about respect than the packages themselves, writing: “Unboxing something new is an experience all on its own and she's kinda stealing that from you even after telling her it bothers you. Not cool at all.”
