Kurt Russell relates to his character in The Madison.
In an interview with Men's Health published Wednesday, March 18, Russell said playing Michelle Pfeiffer's husband in the show made him think about his real-life relationship with longtime partner Goldie Hawn.
"Some of the conversations that [Preston and Stacy] have, I've had," he said of their characters. "Goldie and I have had very similar conversations. Their relationship, it's the kind of relationship you almost never see anymore. It's a truly loving relationship. It's not like there's another shoe to drop. That's what makes it so difficult for [Michelle's] character when she loses her husband."
"She's realizing how much more they could have had that they didn't have because of something she didn't do," he continued. "I think a lot of people relate to that kind of regret."
He continues, "As you get older and you've only got so much time left, that doubles things up in terms of looking at what you've done in your life so far and what you want to do with the rest of your life."

In The Madison, Russell, 75, plays Preston, Stacy's late husband, who dies in the first episode. Preston's death makes Stacy move from her New York City home to Montana where she learns to embrace the land her husband loved so much.
While speaking to Men's Health, Russell said he also relates to how his character feels about Montana because he has a similar fixation for Colorado.

"I moved to Colorado when I was 26 years old. At a certain point, you find yourself asking whether you're going to live the life you want to live, or if you're just going to talk about it. And I decided to make the move and live the life I wanted to live," he said.
"But my business was still primarily out of Los Angeles, so my life's been split, going back and forth. I'm glad I did what I did. I've enjoyed my life the way I've wanted to and I've been able to continue on in the business too. I was able to make that happen," he added. "I could draw on that in The Madison."
Russell and Hawn, 80, have one of the longest relationships in Hollywood. The couple have been together since 1983. In a 2017 interview with PEOPLE, Hawn said she fell in love with Russell once she saw the way he treated her kids.
The Death Becomes Her actress is a proud mom of three. She shares her two oldest kids, Kate Hudson, 46, and Oliver Hudson, 49, with her ex-husband Bill Hudson, and her youngest son, Wyatt Russell, 39, with Russell.
“What really got me was when I watched my kids when they’d come to the set and how he was with them. He was amazing with them. He was such a natural,” she said.
The Madison is available to stream on Paramount+, with the next three episodes out March 21.
