Kacey Musgraves opened up about her rumored feud with Miranda Lambert
The eight-time Grammy winner reached out to the "Wranglers" musician "randomly" to collaborate on the duet "Horses and Divorces," which will be featured on her upcoming album Middle of Nowhere
Musgraves' claimed her song "Mama's Broken Heart" was supposed to be her first single but was pitched to Lambert and ended up appearing on her 2013 album Four the Record
Kacey Musgraves opened up reconnecting with Miranda Lambert for an upcoming duet.
Ultimately, Musgraves was satisfied with the decision because it "forced" her to write "Merry Go Round," which was more a fit for her aesthetically and lyrically than "Mama's Broken Heart," which topped the charts.
The "Space Cowboy" singer, who announced her new album Middle of Nowhere on Wednesday, March 11, spoke about her rumored feud with the "Run" singer in an interview with NPR.
Musgraves, 37, recalled writing a song called "Mama's Broken Heart" around the time of making her first album, which Lambert, 42, ended up recording for her 2013 album Four the Record instead.

"It was two singers from two nearby, small Texas towns. There's a lot that comes with that. Then we each take our own different paths, both leading us to Nashville at different times," the "Rainbow" artist told the outlet.
For Musgraves, there was a lot of "excitement" for her around "Mama's Broken Heart."
"It was gonna be my first single and I loved the song so much. I had been a staff writer for years at that point, writing for other people and had finally felt like I was collecting songs that felt like me that I didn't wanna pitch to anyone else," she said.
Musgraves claimed that the song was pitched to Lambert without her "consent or knowledge."
"It was a tricky situation. She ended up loving the song and she really wanted it. And I had other co-writers to consider," she recalled.
Ultimately, Musgraves was satisfied with the decision because it "forced" her to write "Merry Go Round," which was more a fit for her aesthetically and lyrically than "Mama's Broken Heart," which topped the charts.
"So in the end, everyone won because I was able to let go of something," said Musgraves.
The eight-time Grammy-winning singer/songwriter then opened up about how Lambert ended up working with her on a duet called "Horses and Divorces" for her new album.
"We'd lost touch for years and wouldn't consider each other friends," said Musgraves. "I saw her on Instagram one day, riding one of her horses, and I was like, 'Well, we ain't friends, but I guess we have two things in common, horses and divorces, that's for sure.'"

She then thought "that could be a really funny song."
"What if it's a duet with her? What if I got her to write on it?" Musgraves said.
She then "randomly" reached out to Lambert.
"I was like, 'I know we've had our s--- over the years, but listen, we've at least got two things in common," said Musgraves. "I'm not trying to be your friend. You got your life, I have mine. But I think this would be a pretty f------ funny song, and we should write it with Shane [McAnally]."
Lambert agreed to the collaboration, and Musgraves said the moment was "very full circle in so many ways."
"We aired out any of the old laundry," "The Architect" performer said. "We had some laughs and wrote the song in a matter of a few hours."
Musgraves noted that the song could also be a "micro representation of what I wish that the world would do sometimes."
"Just f------ sit down and poke fun at each other, have a beer and call it a day," she said.
PEOPLE has reached out to reps for Lambert for comment.
On March 11, Musgraves released the lead single from Middle of Nowhere “Dry Spell," alongside a cheeky music video.
She also shared the tracklist for the LP, which comes two years after her last album Deeper Well and features collaborations with Willie Nelson, Billy Strings, Gregory Alan Isakov and Lambert.
Middle of Nowhere, which marks Musgraves' return to Lost Highway Records, is out May 1.
