'Just Stop,' 'Very Inappropriate to Do That' — NFL Fans Not Sold on Packers RB Josh Jacobs’ Explanation for Controversial Celebration
It was a fairly controversial return for Josh Jacobs from the Commissioner’s Exempt List that forced him to miss the first six games of the season. Following a solid outing in Week 7, though, things took a turn in their Week 8 matchup.
Even as the Green Bay Packers walked away with a 27-19 victory on Thursday Night Football, a controversial celebration from Jacobs had fans fuming. After the game, the veteran running back clarified that the celebration had a different meaning, but fans were far from convinced.
Fans Aren’t Buying Josh Jacobs’ Explanation for Touchdown Celebration
In the second quarter, as the Packers took a lead over the Carolina Panthers, Jacobs ran it in for the touchdown. Immediately afterwards, it looked like his celebration mimicked an individual walking with his arms handcuffed behind his back.
This summer, Jacobs was formally charged with battery and criminal damage to property after a domestic dispute in May. Pleading no contest to both charges, he was placed on one year of supervision, alongside restitution, a fine, and a no-contact order.
As a result, fans held the opinion that the act was insensitive and called for consequences.
But Jacobs tried to clarify what he meant by the celebration, going so far as to blame the broadcast for not showcasing it fully.
“Yeah, they didn’t even get the whole celebration,” he argued. “The first celebration when I scored, I was gonna thank God. That’s what I did last week. Second one was gonna be ‘Break Every Chain.’ It’s a gospel song. That was gonna be the next celebration. It’s just a correlation.”

However, fans were less convinced by his explanation. Given the optics, they weren’t buying his side of the story.
“Just stop! Wow,” one fan exclaimed, as another fan added, “Liar. Very inappropriate to do that.”
One fan stated his disgust, writing, “I couldn’t play for a team if this was in my locker room. Absolutely trash.”
Anotherfan remarked, “His legal team ain’t sleep in months.”
Chad Fisher added, “Even if this is true, dude has zero situational awareness.”
Although Jacobs has explained the intended meaning of his celebration, the reaction has continued to generate debate. The NFL’s separate review of his legal case remains ongoing, but there has been no indication that the league plans to discipline him specifically for this gesture.
