Josh Hartnett is back on the big screen, alongside Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson, in *Verity*, based on Colleen Hoover’s novel of the same name.

The actor walked the red carpet at the U.K. premiere of his new film on Thursday alongside costar Johnson and his wife, Tamsin Egerton. He wore an oversized black suit and white button-down shirt as he posed for photos with Johnson, who donned black undergarments beneath a beige lace gown by Colleen Allen.

His moment with Egerton, however, stole the show as Hartnett was caught on camera by *HuffPost U.K.** *giving his wife a kiss before taking a few solo snaps with photographers. He then signaled for Egerton, rocking a shimmering black gown, who joined him for couple pictures on the carpet—gently rubbing his back as they posed together.

He gave her one last smooch before they parted ways again.

Hartnett and fellow actor Egerton have been together since 2011 after meeting on the set of *The Lovers*. They share four children, aged 10 to 2, and officially tied the knot in November 2021 after a decade together.

A Hollywood heartthrob since his days in *The Virgin Suicides*, *Pearl Harbor*, and *Wicker Park*, Hartnett stars as Jeremy Crawford in *Verity*—the husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford (Hathaway), who, due to a mysterious accident, is unable to finish her successful book series. Jeremy asks writer Lowen Ashleigh (Johnson) to complete the series, and while working on it, discovers an unfinished manuscript that reveals unsettling details about Verity’s past.

“I mean, these are two of the best actors working in Hollywood right now,” Hartnett said of his female costars on *This Morning* Friday. “And the movie kind of resides on their faces, in my opinion, the way that they interact, I think, is just beautiful to watch.”

Hartnett said it takes a good script to get him to leave his “tiny little farm with a lot of animals” in Hampshire in South East England, and *Verity* intrigued him.

“We have four kids, so it’s busy,” he said of his day-to-day. “My life is my family life and every once in a while I come out and do something like this, which is such an anomaly for me, and I’m a little bit nervous, I have to say.”

Hartnett says, at 48, he knows who he is and has “got my family.” The rest just comes with the territory of being an actor. “I feel much more at ease with all this [Hollywood] stuff now than I used to,” he told *This Morning*.

The *Oppenheimer* star also noted that his life as a husband and father keeps him grounded, especially since he’s “a foreigner in my own home” as Egerton and their kids are all English.

As for his extended family, well, they keep him humble, too.

“There’s one person who read the book who is absolutely not on board with me being Jeremy,” Hartnett told **, ahead of *Verity*’s premiere. “That’s my goddaughter.”

He explained that the 12-year-old “loves the book” and questioned his casting.

“She was like, ‘You’re playing Jeremy? You’re like 100 years old,’” Hartnett recalled. His costar Hathaway quipped that it’s “probably healthy” that Hartnett’s goddaughter isn’t emotionally invested in his involvement.

*Verity* opens in theaters Oct. 2.
