Count Jimmy Kimmel among the fans of Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show.
On his Feb. 9 episode, the comedian praised the Puerto Rican rapper's halftime show set and pushed back on critics who complained that it was performed almost entirely in Spanish. One of these critics was President Donald Trump, who posted on Truth Social that Bad Bunny was "absolutely terrible" and that "nobody understands a word this guy is saying."
"Did I know any of the songs Bad Bunny was singing? Absolutely not," Kimmel said. "Never heard even one second of one of them. Did I understand any of what he was singing? Yes, the word nunca. That was it. But since when do we what the singers are saying? … It's the halftime show at a football game. I don't know all the words to any song."
He added, "This is not about excluding people. It's the opposite of that. English has had a lot of at-bats over the last 60 years of Super Bowls. … The biggest artist in the world is Bad Bunny, so maybe let Spanish have a turn for once."

The president was among those who criticized Bad Bunny's selection as the halftime show performer last year, telling Newsmax he "never heard" of the rapper, who was Spotify's top artist globally in 2025. Turning Point USA, the conservative organization cofounded by late activist Charlie Kirk, streamed its own All-American Halftime Show, headlined by Kid Rock, on YouTube.
While hosting "Saturday Night Live" in October, Bad Bunny joked that fans who don't speak Spanish had "four months to learn" ahead of his Super Bowl performance. In a press conference ahead of the set, though, the rapper noted, in all seriousness, that viewers who don't know the language can still enjoy the music.
"People only have to worry about dancing," he said. "They don't even have to learn Spanish. Better they learn to dance. There is no better dance than the one that comes from the heart."

Jon Stewart says Bad Bunny 'killed it,' mocks backlash
Meanwhile, Jon Stewart gave his Super Bowl halftime show verdict on "The Daily Show," saying that Bad Bunny "killed it," and he mocked people who were upset he didn't perform in English.
Stewart also asked why it's Bad Bunny's "job to unify the country," like some critics implied. The "Daily Show" host suggested there's "another person," meaning the president, "whose job description is much more along those lines."
He added, "You know, the right has a lot of balls complaining that Bad Bunny didn't do enough to unify this country when you only found out a few days ago that Puerto Rico is a part of it."
