Actor Jim Carrey returned to the spotlight for a very good reason.

The Ace Ventura: Pet Detective star is notoriously private and has spent life away from Hollywood after capitulating to fame in the 1990s. However, he made a rare public appearance on Saturday night at the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Chris Cornell Remembered at Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

In 2017, Cornell died by suicide, but his memory lives on forever with Soundgarden, his fans, and his family. Cornell’s daughter, Lily, joined Carrey on stage to say a few words about her late father.

“I am just really, really happy that he got to make music with his friends,” she said of her dad. “At the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about. I know how much purpose that gave him, and how much it’s meant to people who have heard that music. That’s what I’ll be holding in my heart tonight,” she shared before introducing her father’s bandmates.

Cornell's other daughter, Toni, gave a powerful performance that left the audience in tears during a moving tribute to him.

While some may question Carrey as the choice to honor Cornell and help induct Soundgarden into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, it turns out the actor has a history with the band. Carrey has been a fan of Soundgarden since the second the “Seattle music scene” exploded.

In fact, when he hosted Saturday Night Live back in 1996, Carrey insisted that Soundgarden be the musical guest.
