Somewhere in the DC Comics multiverse, Isabel May and KJ Apa are still Hollywood's live-action Wonder Twins.
May, soon to be seen this weekend as Sidney Prescott's daughter in *Scream 7*, looks back on the now-canceled superhero movie during an extensive profile interview with **.
“Most things fall apart, and you have to be okay with that,” the actress says of the lessons she learned in Hollywood with projects like this. “You have to be capable of just taking the punch on the chin, standing back up, walking forward, stepping into the next one.”
Back in early 2022, May and the *Riverdale* alum were cast as Jayna and Zan, two shapeshifting aliens, in a new DC project. The characters originated on Hanna-Barbera cartoon *The All-New Super Friends Hour* and enjoyed a healthy TV presence across various shows before segueing into the world of comic book superheroes.
At the time, the two actors were to play these roles in a movie for the HBO Max streaming platform, but the merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery into the current Warner Bros. Discovery regime with David Zaslav at the helm led to a number of project cancellations, including *Wonder Twins*. Adam Sztykiel, who worked on Dwayne Johnson-starrer *Black Adam*, was previously hired to write and direct.

“I was not familiar with that whole world of DC and all that stuff,” May tells EW of the film. “People told me it was a big gig and I went with it. I thought it was actually really funny, and I really liked the creative team behind it. I've worked with KJ since then.”
May and Apa recently filmed the upcoming rom-com *Falling*. “He was just a gem of a human, and I adore him," the actress continues. "You get flown out, you try on costumes, and suddenly, like a week after the announcement, you get a call from the director saying, ‘Well, David Zaslav is in power now and all of these things have shifted and he doesn't wanna do this film.’ And, like, I get it. I'm not upset about it or anything. I get it. It's just the way that the business functions and it's all OK, but you suddenly this thing you that was gonna be a part of your future for a certain amount of time is suddenly just not there. So now you have to reassess."

In the EW interview, May also discusses her new role as Tatum Evans, the daughter of Neve Campbell's Sidney in *Scream 7*. A new Ghostface killer emerges years after the OG Scream Queen settled down in the small town of Pine Grove with their eyes set on Tatum, who's named after Sidney's high school bestie, Tatum Riley (Rose McGowan).
“I hadn't seen the films yet," May comments on that tribute. "I didn't understand initially how impactful that was, and then I watched the films, realized the connection, did my own research online, realized how beloved that character is, and felt really honored. I thought it was such a smart choice.”
*Scream 7* will open in theaters this weekend.
