Prince George is preparing for a "big summer" as he becomes a teenager with a significant life transition on the horizon.

The second in line to the British throne, who is marking his 13th birthday today, will begin at a new school in September, following his father's path by enrolling at the prestigious Eton College, near his Windsor residence.

Reports claimed this new "huge transition" for George is "pivotal" to his preparation to become the future King. A family friend revealed to The Sun: "He may be as tall as his mum, but George is quite a self-conscious and awkward teen.

"He's not an extrovert or a show-off. In fact, he's quite a sensitive soul who's very into conservation, like his father and grandfather, and music.

"Behind closed doors, he's like any other teen, but in public, he takes it all very seriously."

According to reports, George will mark his transition into teenage years and his departure from Lambrook School with a special birthday celebration, with the Prince and Princess of Wales recognized for being "very hands-on" in planning the event.

George's past birthday celebrations have reportedly featured football themes, reflecting his shared enthusiasm for the sport with his father.

The theme for Prince George's party this year remains undisclosed.

As a gift, the future King might receive a new Villa strip, a guitar, or a hockey stick, sources indicate. But the festivities aren't anticipated to conclude following the birthday celebration, as the Waleses are expected to spend some much-needed downtime at Anmer Hall, their Norfolk country residence, where George will participate in various outdoor activities, including sailing, swimming and picnics during his "last summer of childhood".

The source close to the Waleses said: "George is very aware of who he is, and that has made him extremely cautious with friendships.

"You have to feel for him, really. It's a very difficult thing to know you will be the future King of England.

"He hasn't faced up to the enormity of his future, but he does take his position seriously."
