Hugh Jackman‘s dark Robin Hood reimagining has finally secured a streaming home after its divisive theatrical run. The Death of Robin Hood has locked down its official HBO Max premiere date for next month.

A24’s The Death of Robin Hood will debut on HBO Max on October 16, according to a press release from Warner Bros. Discovery. The film stars Hugh Jackman as an aged Robin Hood in a dark reimagining of the classic legend. Jodie Comer, Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett, and Noah Jupe round out the cast.
Michael Sarnoski wrote and directed the thriller, which follows Robin Hood in his final years. The outlaw grapples with guilt over his violent past after a life of crime and murder. A mysterious woman offers him a chance at salvation after he suffers a grave injury.
Aaron Ryder, Andrew Swett, Alexander Black, and Hugh Jackman produced the film. Lyrical Media and Ryder Picture Company handled production duties. A24 distributed the film in the United States following its theatrical release.

The Death of Robin Hood premiered at the 73rd Sydney Film Festival on June 12, 2026. It then opened in U.S. theaters on June 19, 2026. The film earned $9.5 million at the box office against a $20 million budget. On Rotten Tomatoes, 68% of 184 critics’ reviews are positive, with an average rating of 6.3/10.
Principal photography began in early February 2025 in Northern Ireland. Filming took place at Belfast Harbour Studios and on location at Silent Valley, Glenarm, and Murlough Bay. Post-production occurred at Yellowmoon in Holywood, County Down. Pat Scola served as cinematographer, and the crew shot the film on 35 mm film.
The production wrapped in late March 2025 after just over 30 days of filming. Jim Ghedi composed the score during post-production. The film is based on the 17th-century ballad Robin Hood’s Death. Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett, and Noah Jupe joined the cast in February 2025. A24 had previously acquired U.S. rights for $4 million at the Marché du Film.
