Gillian Anderson is a believer in Ryan Coogler's X-Files reboot.
A new version of the iconic sci-fi series from the Oscar-winning filmmaker has been in the works since 2023, but Hulu officially gave the green light for a pilot last month, with Station Eleven's Danielle Deadwyler set to star. And yet, that doesn't mean that the original X-Files leading lady is no longer in the mix.
"We've had a few conversations," Anderson recently said of Coogler at Awesome Con. "He's such a cool guy, and so talented. And the pilot script is really good. I would say, have an open mind and give it a chance, because it's gonna be f---ing cool. It really is."
Anderson added that the project is "different" and "special," so fans should "give it a break."

Created by Chris Carter, The X-Files premiered in 1993 on Fox, starring Anderson and David Duchovny as Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, respectively, a pair of FBI agents who are tasked with investigating unsolved cases that appear to have a paranormal aspect to them. Anderson's Scully is a skeptic, while Duchovny's Mulder is a true believer and conspiracy theorist. The X-Files ran for nine seasons, before returning for two revivals in 2016 and 2018. The series also spawned a pair of feature films.

"I've been excited about that for a long time, and I’m fired up to get back to it. Some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really f---ing scary," Coogler teased last year of his X-Files reboot. "We're gonna try to make something really great, and really be something for the real X-Files fans, and maybe find some new ones."
The Sinners mastermind also said that his "fingers [are] crossed" in regards to Anderson's involvement.
For her part, Anderson previously declared that Coogler was "the perfect person" to reboot the series, even telling him to "call me": "At some point, if the phone rings and it's good and it feels like the right time, perhaps."
