Warner Bros. is reportedly developing a feature-length Game of Thrones movie with Andor and House of Cards writer Beau Willimon

The project would reportedly focus on King Aegon I Targaryen's conquest of the fictional continent Westeros, roughly 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones is heading to the big screen!

On Tuesday, March 3, The Hollywood Reporter and Page Six both reported that Warner Bros. is developing a feature-length movie set in the world of Game of Thrones, based on author George R. R. Martin's book series A Song of Ice and Fire, with Andor writer and former House of Cards showrunner Beau Willimon on board to write the film.

As THR noted, the outlet previously reported on this project in January. During a feature on series creator Martin, 77, the outlet shared that the project — a story based on King Aegon I Targaryen's conquest of Westeros — was being developed simultaneously as two potential stories: one, a drama series similar to the Game of Thrones spinoffs House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and another as what the outlet described as "a mammoth Dune-sized feature film." A rep for Warner Bros. did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

The reported storyline for the in-the-works Thrones movie would take place roughly 300 years before the beginning of HBO's standout fantasy series. Therefore, no fan favorite characters from the original series or either of HBO's spinoffs would be expected to appear in the film. Warner Bros. has not yet announced any casting or news regarding a director for the project.

According to THR, using Thrones as a jumping point for feature films set in the series has been discussed at HBO as far back as 2013, when the series' original showrunners, David Benioff and Dan Weiss pitched ending the television series with a trilogy of feature films. (The original series ran for eight seasons and concluded in 2019.)

The news comes roughly one week after A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, set roughly 100 years before Thrones, wrapped its first season. House of the Dragon, which is set about 200 years before the original show, will return for its third season in June.

Meanwhile, Martin told THR in January that he has finalized "about 1,100 manuscript pages" of The Winds of Winter, the long-awaited sixth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series. Martin has not published a novel in the series since 2011's A Dance with Dragons, which largely covered events seen in Game of Thrones' fifth season. The author has not provided a target date to publish the book and said "it would feel like a total failure to me" if he does not finish the series.
