- Beau Willimon of *House of Cards* and *Andor* is writing a *Game of Thrones* movie.

- The film is said to be about Aegon the Conqueror, though HBO is also considering a TV series adaptation of that material.

- Here's where the spinoffs currently stand.

Remember that *Game of Thrones* movie we've been hearing about for some time? Well, the project is officially moving ahead with an acclaimed television writer behind *House of Cards* and *Andor*.

Beau Willimon is writing a film set in the *Game of Thrones* universe that is currently in development, ** has learned. Plot details are under wraps, but *Page Six*, which first reported the news, suggests it could be a treatment for the story of Aegon I Targaryen, the Conqueror of Westeros.

EW reached out to reps for Warner Bros. and Willimon for comment.

Confirmed back in 2024, HBO was developing a treatment for an Aegon's Conquest TV spinoff, about how the first Targaryen ruler who forged the Iron Throne flew on dragonback from the land of Old Valyria, waged a campaign to unite the Seven Kingdoms, and became the first king of Westeros. Mattson Tomlin (*The Batman Part II*, *Terminator Zero*) wrote that treatment, though a series has not been greenlit.

However, as reported in the press in the last few months, HBO is also considering an option to turn the story of Aegon into a theatrical movie. *Page Six *suggests that's the one Willimon, also known for writing screenplays for 2011's *The Ides of March* and 2018's *Mary Queen of Scots*, is working on and already submitted a draft for.

Of course, this could all change in light of Paramount's massive acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, which gives the studio control over Warner Bros. and HBO. Though, David Ellison, the new billionaire overlord, signaled he is already a fan of *Game of Thrones*.

HBO has considered a number of different avenues to expand their *Game of Thrones*-branded offerings over the years, including a formal sequel to the Emmy-winning juggernaut of a flagship series focused on Jon Snow (Kit Harington).

But so far, the only ones that are officially happening are *House of the Dragon*, which will debut its third season this June ahead of a fourth and final season in 2028; and *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms*, the half-hour drama that just wrapped its first season and is currently filming its second for a 2027 debut.

Tomlin previously spoke with EW about working on the TV adaptation of the legend of Aegon the Conqueror. "It kind of turns into doing Napoleon or doing Alexander the Great or doing some great historical figure where we know a lot about the guy. We know where he was, we know who he conquered, we know who lived, and we know who died," he said. "That all becomes the plot, and then it becomes my job to go, 'But what did it mean thematically?'"
