Fan who vanished after attending Steelers-Browns game found dead in river

A body recovered from an Ohio river has been identified as an out-of-state man who disappeared after attending the Oct. 1 Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers game, officials said.

Phoenix Phillips, 24, was last seen at 6 a.m. ET on Oct. 2, the Cleveland Police Department reported. Police told USA TODAY that Phillips was in Cleveland for the game before he vanished.

On Oct. 6, first responders and the U.S. Coast Guard recovered a body from the Cuyahoga River.

In an email to USA TODAY, Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office manager Christopher Harris identified the victim as Phillips, of Perryville, Maryland.

The official cause and manner of his death are pending autopsy results.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Cleveland police at 216-623-5318.
