Brady Ebert, former guitarist of Grammy-winning hardcore band Turnstile, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with attempted murder after allegedly hitting lead singer Brendan Yates’ father, William Yates, with his car, according to local court and arrest records reviewed by *.*
In a press release on Thursday, the Montgomery (Md.) County Department of Police confirmed authorities responded to a “reported hit-and-run collision” in Silver Spring on Sunday at 4:41 p.m.
When they arrived on the scene, their investigation “revealed that Ebert was involved in an argument with his 78-year-old neighbor in the neighbor’s driveway” and that “during the incident, and for reasons still under investigation, Ebert struck the victim with his 2001 Buick before leaving the scene without contacting 9-1-1 or providing aid.”

After reviewing surveillance footage and discovering Ebert’s vehicle, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Ebert and took him into custody Tuesday, charging him with felony attempted second-degree murder and felony first-degree assault. Ebert has since been taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he is currently being held without bond.
A representative for Ebert’s lawyer, Andrew Alpert, offered no comment at this time.
In a statement provided to EW, Turnstile explained that it “cut ties with Brady Ebert in 2022 in response to a consistent pattern of harmful behavior affecting himself, the band, and the community.”

The band's statement continued: “After exhausting every available resource to support his access to help and recovery, a boundary ultimately had to be set when healthy communication was no longer possible and he began threatening violence.”
Ebert has allegedly gone on “baseless tirades” about the band in the years since, but Turnstile stated that it never addressed his comments because the band “chose to protect his privacy and the circumstances around his departure.”
However, the band noted that “over the past few months, his threats only escalated further” and resulted in a physical altercation with Brendan’s dad, William.
“This past week, that violence led to a physical attack when Brady went to the house of Brendan’s parents and used his vehicle to run over Brendan’s father, causing severe physical trauma,” the statement continued. “We are grateful that Mr. Yates survived, has successfully undergone surgery, and we’re hoping for the best possible outcome in his recovery.”
The band concluded, “We have no language left for Brady. Please respect our privacy at this time.”
