For the past few years, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been surrounded by controversies. Due to this, he ended up losing many things from his royal titles, his home, and his privileges. However, as per reports, it seems there is one historic title that can still remain with the former prince, and even King Charles III can not take the honor away.

Ex-Prince Andrew was stripped of all his titles after his controversies came to light. However, it seems there is one title that the former Duke of York can still hold. According to the BBC, Andrew can still retain the Freedom of the City of London honors, despite growing pressure to remove all of his honors.

The Freedom of the City of London allows its recipients to walk sheep over London Bridge. It is typically awarded to individuals nominated by corporation councillors. As per the report, the City of London Corporation confirmed to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) that the centuries-old privilege must remain in place.

“Applications via patrimony are not considered by our elected members,” stated the corporation. They further added, “We have carefully considered whether it is possible to remove a Freedom granted by patrimony and understand that we are not able to do so.” Even the Local Democracy Reporting Service that the Corporation examined the rules dictating how a Freedom is given, “and the circumstances in which, and procedure by which, it can be removed.”

The historic honor was given to Andrew in 2012 due to “patrimony.” This means he inherited the right to it through his late father, Prince Philip, who also had been a Freeman of the City. Cate Blanchett and Sir Lenny Henry have also received the honor.

King Charles stripped his brother, Andrew, of his royal titles, styles, and honors last year after he was surrounded by more controversies. He was then arrested in February at his Norfolk home. However, the ex-prince was released under investigation after 11 hours in custody.
