Cooper Flagg rookie card sets astonishing record at auction

A one-of-one autographed rookie card with a debut patch of Dallas Mavericks star Cooper Flagg sold for an absurd amount of money on Friday morning.

Flagg, who won 2026 NBA Rookie of the Year, was selected by the Mavericks at No. 1 overall following his one-and-done freshman campaign at Duke. Before his rookie season began, Topps announced the unique card for the Dallas star.

As we wrote last year, Flagg wore a one-of-a-kind patch affixed to his jersey during his debut game on October 22. The patch was later removed, authenticated, and inserted into a one-of-one Topps Rookie Debut Patch Autograph card. Flagg then signed the card and it went into distribution.

The card was pulled in a live stream "break" by Rhody Breakers in Rhode Island. Jason Williams, a collector from South Carolina, put it up for auction with Fanatics Collect. The auction ran from September 10 until September 24.

The card received more than 83 bids and jumped from $3.5 million on Thursday evening to $8.04 million when it finally sold on Friday morning.

This was the most a basketball card of a singe player at auction ever reached and the most expensive debut patch card ever sold, surpassing the $1.1 million set previously by Paul Skenes.

San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper, who had a similar one-of-one card, saw his sold for $2.88 million. Charlotte Hornets wing Kon Knueppel, who played collegiate basketball with Flagg, saw his go for $2.34 million.
