The latest scoop from *Love Story* is stranger than fiction.

Carole Radziwill, the widow of John F. Kennedy Jr.’s cousin Anthony Radziwill, has revealed a strange coincidence with Ryan Murphy’s FX series: an ex of hers actually auditioned to play her late husband — and even called her to request recordings of Anthony to study his voice.

In a new interview with the *New York Times*, the *Real Housewives of New York* star recalls taking the winter 2024 call while driving through the streets of Manhattan in her 1998 Jeep Cherokee. She and the unidentified actor had gone on a few dates years earlier, so the out-of-the-blue phone call took her aback.

Radziwill, 62, didn't reveal what was said during the exchange. Nevertheless, she was so rattled that she pulled over to collect her thoughts afterward because it stirred feelings that remain unresolved. (For the record: Erich Bergen, not her ex, was cast as Anthony.)

Anthony died from cancer at 40 in August 1999, three weeks after JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette were killed in a plane crash off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard.

Twenty-seven years later, *Love Story* has torn open those old wounds. Radziwill —who is not portrayed onscreen — refuses to watch the series and remains one of its most outspoken critics, specifically on her Substack, *The Voice of Reason*.

“Defending Carolyn and talking about my husband was a hill I was going to die on,” she tells the *Times*. “But honestly, I didn’t think that 25 years later, it would become a mountain.”

Radziwill, an Emmy-winning television journalist, first met Bessette on Memorial Day Weekend in 1992 during a family get-together in the Hamptons, and the pair immediately hit it off.

“We had a lot in common in the weirdest ways,” she tells the *Times*. And as Anthony went through treatment for metazoic sarcoma (a rare type of connective-tissue cancer), “She would just be my rock,” Radziwill said of Bessette. “She was there for me all the time.”

With *Love Story* coming to an end on March 26, Radziwill is looking ahead to her own next chapter: She’s returning to the rebooted *Real Housewives of New York*, eight years after she left the Bravo series amid a dispute with network boss Andy Cohen.

“To go back to something that I was such a big part of, you know, is a bit of a risk for me,” she confessed to the *Times*. Radziwill reconciled with Cohen, and it was a promise from him that turned out to be the deciding factor: “Andy said that I could film as much or as little as I want.”

In an email to the newspaper, Cohen admitted he was “really happy” Radziwill chose to take the chance. “My pitch was essentially to join us in a way that should be light, fun, additive to the show. And, hopefully, somehow, to her life.”
