Britney Spears was arrested in California on Wednesday night.
The pop icon was taken into custody by California Highway Patrol in Ventura County, Calif., around 9:30 p.m., per the Sheriff's Office arrest records. She was subsequently booked and released at 6 a.m. Thursday morning.
Spears was reportedly arrested on a charge of driving under the influence, law enforcement sources told TMZ. The arrest is noted as a “cite and release” and has no probation listed. Her next court date is set for May 4, 2026.

Representatives for the Ventura County Sheriff's Department and Spears did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly's request for comment.

The Grammy winner has faced legal troubles in the past. She was released from a 13-year-long conservatorship in 2021.
Last month, Entertainment Weekly reported that Spears sold her entire music catalog to publisher Primary Wave for around $200 million.
