Anne Hathaway has been one of the most bankable stars of 2026 thanks to her roles in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and the highly anticipated Devil Wears Prada sequel.

The 43-year-old — who is currently pregnant with her and husband Adam Shulman’s third child — played Penelope in the Greek epic adaptation and reprised her role as Runway journalist Andy Sachs alongside Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt in The Devil Wears Prada 2.

The high fashion film follow-up, released in May, grossed over $691.3 million worldwide on a $100 million production budget; meanwhile, The Odyssey (released July 17) has officially passed $1.1 billion at the global box office, overtaking 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises ($1.08 billion) to become the highest-grossing film of Nolan’s career.

However, there was a third, less memorable project on Hathaway’s 2026 slate.

A24’s Mother Mary, starring Hathaway as a pop star whose reunion with her former costume designer (Michaela Coel) forces her to confront her past, received mixed reviews and was a major box-office flop, grossing just $3 million against its $20 million budget.

Hathaway was promoting yet another film — The End of Oak Street co-starring Ewan McGregor — when she was asked about her bumper year.

“There’s a lot going on,” she admitted to Extra TV on the red carpet.

“Thankfully, two movies have done unbelievably well and one movie… was very well respected,” she added with a wry smile.

On X, fans latched onto Hathaway’s diplomatic phrasing.

“‘And one movie was very well respected’ mother mary catching strays,” wrote one person.

“Not her very polite way of saying two smash hits and one flop lmfaoooo,” added another.

“Her pouring 3 years of her life into that film for no one to see. i will ride at dawn to the a24 offices,” wrote a third.

Others defended the movie, however, with one person writing: “She was never for the masses she was for a niche group of lesbians to love and appreciate. you wouldn’t understand going in 4 times feeling like you just did cocaine.”

“Mother mary i’m sorry i wasn’t your distribution company we will avenge you,” added another.

The film currently has a middling score of 69 percent on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

Robbie Collin of The Telegraph rated the film two out of five stars, calling it a “beautiful yet ungraspable psychological drama.”

Richard Brody of The New Yorker observed that “the result feels like a Hollywood production done on the cheap, with strenuous efforts to mask its small scale.”

Stephanie Zacharek of Time decried how “arty and self-conscious, [the film] is just a slog.”

In The End of Oak Street, Hathaway stars alongside McGregor, Maisy Stella, and Christian Convery as a family who begins to notice unusual events in their neighborhood involving the appearance of prehistoric creatures.

It is scheduled for release in theaters August 14.
