Alexa Chung has turned a statement bag into a decade-long staple.
Stepping out during Paris Fashion Week, the ultimate It girl—who doesn’t believe in It bags—was seen carrying a Prada brocade satchel that she’s held onto for eleven years now. The structured tote was constructed from a patchwork of silk fabrics, each with a different floral pattern in deep shades of browns, purples, and mustard yellows. It was finished with top handles, snap closures, and gold purse feet for a durable accessory that has stood the test of time in both wear and style.

Here, Chung added the piece to a classic retro preppy ensemble, composed of a light-blue collared shirt peeking out from a collegiate-style graphic crewneck. Over the double-layer look, she added a leather bomber jacket from Mango, designed with notched lapels and an oversize silhouette that tapered into a ruched waistband. The outerwear was treated with a cracked worn-in finish, giving it a vintage feel.

For bottoms, Chung went with relaxed light-wash denim jeans; and for shoes, she slipped into black ballet flats. Her sculptural earrings dressed the fit up, and she went for a Parisian walk—making the streets her runway.

Prada debuted the patchwork handbag back in September 2014 as part of its Spring 2015 collection, and by February, it was on Chung’s arm. The star brought her new bag to Milan for the Prada Fall 2015 collection, wearing it with a full look from the Italian fashion house’s previous season.
