Caleb Flynn allegedly used AI to write songs for his mistress, Alleigha Botner, which were played during his murder trial on Thursday, Sept. 24.
The former pastor and American Idol contestant, 40, is accused of killing his wife, Ashley Flynn, in February. It is alleged that Caleb staged the crime scene to make it appear that an intruder killed her. Thursday marked the fifth day of testimony in the trial for the former pastor and American Idol contestant.
During the second half of the day, Joseph Wilhelm, a special agent at Ohio BCI (Bureau of Criminal Investigation), testified about data extracted from 12 devices during the investigation, including Caleb’s iPhone, according to WLWT.
Wilhelm testified that social media apps and an AI-generating song app were uninstalled from Caleb’s phone days before Ashley’s death on Feb. 16, the outlet reported.
“We found audio files on Caleb’s iPhone that seemed to have been AI-generated and related to his relationship with Alleigha Botner,” Wilhelm said, per court footage.
Wilhelm testified that Caleb had two versions of a song in two different keys that matched lyrics found in notes on Caleb’s phone.

A version of the song was played for the room as people sitting behind Caleb looked visibly taken aback by each lyric. Some tried not to laugh, while others shook their heads.

At one point, as the first version of the song played, Caleb appeared tense as he wiped his brow with a napkin. Some of the lyrics included, “That first time I saw you, the room disappeared. Love at first sight, even though I was scared,” and “Now the third of every month hits me like rain. An anniversary carved into pain. Candles burn out, I still can’t move on. Life lost its meaning the moment you were gone.”

At another point during Thursday’s testimony, Botner was asked to explain what the song meant to her.
“The song was written to show how much he cared about me,” she said. “Right now they mean nothing.”
Explaining some of the lyrics, Botner testified, “We would meet a lot for early mornings when he was supposed to be at the gym. He would come to my house late at night.”

Botner said the line about “the third of every month” was a reference to when they first started texting. Botner also alleged that Caleb would “often” call her “my love” or his “once in a lifetime,” in accordance with the song.
Caleb has maintained his innocence and entered a plea of not guilty to the murder charge against him.
