While speaking at WSJ Tech Live, the Breaking Bad actor, 46, revealed that he made a promise to refrain from using his phone around his children. Paul recalled the exact moment he made the sweet pact with his daughter Story Annabelle, whom he welcomed in 2018.
"My daughter comes running in and she's asking me a question, something, and I'm trying to just finish this quick email, and then, she stopped asking, and she kind of went and started playing," he recalled. "This was when she was 6, and I put my phone down and I went to her and I go, 'You know, I want to say I'm sorry for not being responsive to you.' And, I go, 'I wanna make a pact with you right now. I wanna promise, Daddy's not gonna be on his phone when he's with you anymore.'"
"And she did a one-word response. She looks at me and she goes, 'Really?' " he continued. "And it broke my heart. You know what I mean? It really did break my heart. I go, 'I promise you I won't.' And she just jumped up and threw her arms around me like she won the biggest prize."

Paul, who shares his daughter and son Ryden Caspian with wife Lauren Parsekian, went on to say that parents owe it to their children to prioritize them.
"We owe it to our kids to at least give it a shot. You know what I mean?" he said. "It's like you can choose whether the technology controls you. You should control the technology."
While appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the actor was asked about how longtime friend and collaborator Bryan Cranston is the godfather to Paul's son, Ryden. Paul explained that his kids only know Cranston by one particular name.
“He’s just the best. Well, you know him, he’s just the most immature person I’ve ever met. You know what I mean? He really is. He’s just the best," Paul raved about Cranston.
"But my kiddos call him Monkey Man from The One and Only Ivan movie he did with the giant gorilla," Paul said, referring to Cranston's 2020 film. "And they just call him Monkey Man. My son, I don’t think he even knows his name is Bryan. He’s Monkey Man.”
“It could be Heisenberg, so that’s for the better,” Kimmel jokingly responded, referring to Cranston's Breaking Bad character.

In a June 2023 cover story for British GQ, Cranston talked about becoming godfather to Paul's son, saying that he'd called Ryden for his first birthday in April and noting that being a godfather is "truly answering a call."
“It is truly allowing me to go through the experience of what it feels like to be a grandfather," the actor shared. "My jaws hurt from [smiling]. I love to hold him and play with him.”
After revealing the birth of his son in April 2022 during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Paul first shared that his former costar has a special relationship with his son.
"I asked Bryan on his birthday if he would be our baby's godfather," Paul shared, before teasing that Cranston initially turned down the offer.
"No, he's very excited, very honored," Paul continued. "I love the man to death. He's one of my best friends in the world, and, so yeah, it was just a no-brainer."
